Whenever I’ve set out on new experiment or down a strange path in my life, I’ve always found Day 1 to have a very unique power. Despite the fact that other days on the journey certainly can have both good and bad moments, Day 1 seems to be the only one that completely blurs the line between being both the easiest and the hardest day.
It’s easy because… well… it’s full of unknown.
As Socrates said, and I’m paraphrasing a bit, “Fear only that which you know is bad.”
We shouldn’t fear “unknowns”… we should embrace them so that they can become “knowns”.
Unfortunately, it’s usually the “knowns” that make it the hardest day.
With something like this 7-Day juice cleanse that we’re kicking off today (especially if it’s your first) despite the laundry list of “unknowns”… there are a few things you can feel confident about.
You’re not going to eat.
I mean at all.
You’re not going to chew for the next week.
While there are a few people in this world that eating isn’t a big deal. I have family that just “forgets to eat” sometimes. That’s crazier than double-fisting McChicken sandwiches if you ask me. For most, the idea of drinking all of your meals – none of which will be a milkshake – for 7-Days is a very hard reality to face.
The whole “flushing out the toxins” thing is another strange one for people.
If you’re new, that big picture concept may not be full crystallized, but I’d gather you at least have an idea.
It does flushing right in the title.
Day 1 is a great experience. We only get one of them.
Embrace the unknown.
What I’m Drinking Today
I like to start out with the basics. Lots of water and a couple of simple recipes.
MEAN GREEN REBOOT JUICE
- 1 Cucumber
- 4 Celery stalks
- 2 Green Apples
- 6-8 Kale leaves
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1 tbsp ginger – (NOTE: I skip the ginger because I don’t like the taste)
- 2 cups of peeled orange and Texas Red Grapefruit – Adjust your volume of each to taste (sweet v tart)
- 1 Cucumber
- 1 Lemon
- 1 Lime
This is a nice basic fruit juice. Doesn’t go crazy out of the box with flavors for newbies. And it’s a nice contrast to the MEAN GREEN. There is a similar version I’ve done with pineapple instead of orange and grapefruit.
- 2 Hydrogen
- 1 Oxygen

Make adjustments to make it work for you.
Take it easy on exercise. Don’t overdo it. It’s OK to work up a sweat and get your heart beating, but without significant protein and carbohydrate sources this week, don’t empty your tank.
Most importantly… if you don’t feel right… STOP!!!!
