How To Lose Weight

How To Lose WeightI noticed it wedged in innocently among the group of daily stories on CNN.com.

It was there again, front and center, when I was visiting the online edition of my local paper.

It was big and bold and hard to miss on HuffPo later that week.

Facebook?  They litter the screen like confetti in Time Square on New Year’s.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT

DON’T EAT UP THAT NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION AGAIN THIS YEAR

THE SECRETS THE OTHER DIETS DON’T TELL YOU

5 TIPS TO LOSE THE POUNDS AND THE TRAINER

10 POUNDS IN 10 DAYS – NO GIMMICKS

Article after article and ad after ad… each one a promise… and each more radical than the one before.

Type “How to” into Google and the first thing it suggests is “…lose weight”.

In fact, you may only be here right now because you read the title and thought the secret pill that you’ve been waiting for was hidden inside.

It’s not here.  I’ll save you some time though… it’s not in those other places either.

But, unlike many of them, I’m not trying to trick you.

I’ve been you.

I’ve been the one desperately seeking the answer.

I’ve been the one with best laid plans.

I’ve been the one looking for the shortcut.

I’ve been the one who said “enough is enough” enough times that I even believed it.

The answer to “How To Lose Weight” isn’t on the internet.

It’s not in a pill, a book or a DVD.  It’s not on a reality show and there’s not an App.

The Weight Loss Industry is a $20 billion money-printing machine for a reason.  It feeds on the power of our human nature.  The wicked combination of a deep emotional WANT and disposable income (or, sadly, for many Americans, an acceptable FICO score).

They try desperately to herd you into the starting gates where they’ll be there waiting to peddle their wares.  Once they have you… the last thing they want is for you to start.  They want you to keep wanting to start.

“I Want To Lose Weight” is the #1 New Year’s Resolution every single year.

Congrats!  You’ve nailed it again.  You’re really, really good at wanting to lose weight.

Now it’s time to push back from the computer.

Now it’s time to stop looking for the magic elixir.

Now it’s time to stop planning the workouts.

Weight loss isn’t the voodoo alchemy that they want you to think it is.

Eat less.  Exercise more.  Rinse.  Repeat.

Get out of the cycle of simply looking for the answer and start doing something about it.

You can’t just live to want it… you’ve got to want to live it.

      Awesome, Kimberly!

Breaking that cycle and making forward movement is huge. Hope this is the year you gain that momentum.
