[pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”30%”]Mission Statement – noun – A summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.[/pullquote]
It was some time in the early 90’s when I was first introduced to the concept of a Mission Statement. Working the midnight shift at an automotive supplier while making what would end up being multiple attempts at finishing college, this “Mom and Pop” facility decided that to reach their aspirations of becoming a Tier One Supplier to the Big Three, the first and most important step was to pen their Mission Statement. There were meetings to schedule meetings. There were brain-storming meetings. There were recap meetings from the previous meetings. Hour after hour. Dollar after dollar. Dozens of employees from every department putting their collective head together to come up with the three or four sentences that, essentially, said “we’re nice people who are good at what we do and want to do it for you.”
When I decided to launch Remodeling Clay as my new online home, I kicked around the idea of a Mission Statement. I poked around some of my favorite blogs on the ‘net to see what they were doing. While some were putting it right out on “front street” with an actual Mission Statement page, I think in the big picture all of them were doing what I envision doing here. They’re letting their voice be the Mission Statement and allowing their readers decide what the aim and value of the content is to them.
That’s what I want to do here.
I kicked around a dozen ideas of what to do with my GO LIVE blog post today. I’m sure most people go with an introduction of themselves since a blog is really a personal diary. By the way, If you want to know more about me, absolutely visit the ABOUT CLAY page. I thought about talking about my history with blogging – the sites, the places, the pieces I’ve written. But, as pompous and Hipster-esque as it sounds, I don’t want to be that version of me that was – I want to be the version of me that I am and I’m becoming.
Life is dynamic. This blog is going to be dynamic.
Life is organic. This blog is going to be organic.
Life is moronic. I promise you this blog will be moronic at times.
I guess, in the end, my Mission Statement is yours to determine. I hope I have something to say that you respond to. It may be praise and accolades or it may be fire and pitchforks. I’m prepared for either one.
